Yes, the markets are commercialized for the benefit of the tourists. But in doing so, they have not lost their original charm, they remain quintessentially Thai, as the below photos will show.
I visited the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, located some 80km southwest of Bangkok. It is the most popular of all the floating markets around Bangkok, hence also the most touristy. But still, i found the experience to be authentic and managed to have a wonderful time.
